Report: Arizona Wildcats’ Tommy Lloyd to receive contract extension

Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd has a contract extension on the horizon, according to Jon Rothstein.
The extension is to be through the 2026-27 season, pending approval from the Arizona Board of Regents, which is scheduled to meet on Thursday with the head coach’s contract extension on the agenda.
The Arizona Daily Star’s Bruce Pascoe reports that Lloyd will be receiving an annual raise of $1 million per year, which boosts him up to an average of $3.6 million per season from the school.
He will also receive $200,000 from Nike and IMG apiece.

Lloyd led the Wildcats to a 33-4 record in his first year at the helm in Tucson, including going a perfect 17-0 at the McKale Center.
The head coach was also named the AP National Coach of the Year.
Arizona went 17-2 in conference play during the regular season and followed that impressive feat with a Pac-12 Tournament title to win the conference outright.
The Wildcats received a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament as a result of their 2021-22 campaign, but their season came to an end in the Sweet 16 at the hands of the No. 5 seeded Houston Cougars.
Lloyd and Co. will also have to deal with key departures next season, as guards Bennedict Mathurin and Dalen Terry, as well as center Christian Koloko, have all declared for the 2022 NBA Draft on June 23.
Mathurin was the 2022 Pac-12 Player of the Year, while Koloko was the 2022 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
