The Arizona Diamondbacks have been the comeback club just over two months into the 2022 season.

The D-backs wasted no time garnering that tag, as Seth Beer’s walk-off home run was the exclamation point on Arizona’s four-run ninth inning to defeat the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Opening Day.

In fact, Arizona’s first two victories on the campaign were come-from-behind walk-off wins.

Here’s a look at the D-backs’ comeback victories 59 games into the 2022 season:

14

Of the Diamondbacks’ 28 wins thus far this year, 14 of them have been come-from-behind wins. And of those 14 W’s, 10 of the comebacks have been completed at home at Chase Field.

3

Of the D-backs’ 14 comeback wins this season, three of them have been walk-off wins. The first was the aforementioned Opening Day walk-off by Beer, which ironically enough was on National Beer Day.

The next walk-off win was also the team’s second victory of the year. This time it was a Ketel Marte sac-fly coupled with an Astros error that brought home two runs to score and give Arizona a 3-2 win over Houston in 10 innings.

Last but not least was an 8-7 win over Atlanta Braves on May 29 after the D-backs once again allowed the visiting team to score in the top of the 10th, only to come back and walk it off in the bottom half of the frame. The Diamondbacks are 3-1 in extra-inning games this season and 10-9 in one-run ballgames, five of which were of the come-from-behind variety.

6 and 8

Six is the number of wins D-backs starters have garnered in the team’s 14 comeback victories. That metric means Arizona fell behind and came back early enough in the game to allow its starting pitcher to be in line for the W. Madison Bumgarner’s only two victories this year have come while trailing, while Zac Gallen, Zach Davies and Merrill Kelly (two) were also beneficiaries of comeback victories.

Conversely, eight of the come-from-behind wins have gone to relievers, which is split up between Joe Mantiply, Oliver Perez, Ian Kennedy (two), Keynan Middleton, J.B. Wendelken, Noe Ramirez and Mark Melancon.
