The Arizona Diamondbacks made a last-minute lineup change Monday ahead of their series opener against the San Diego Padres.
Left fielder David Peralta was scratched due to lower-back tightness, the team announced.
Jordan Luplow replaced Peralta in the batting order against Padres righty Yu Darvish.
Peralta played in 61 out of 68 D-backs games before Monday. He left a game on June 6 against the Cincinnati Reds with back spasms after diving but returned to action the following day.
The veteran outfielder missed a chance to face a pitcher he’s had past success against. Peralta is hitting .391 against Darvish with three home runs in 27 plate appearances.
The D-backs did get right fielder Daulton Varsho back after he missed Sunday’s game with a heel contusion.
Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte remained out of the lineup as he deals with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He is day-to-day.
Peralta has .234/.304/.433 splits this season in 224 plate appearances.
His OPS is .796 against right-handed pitchers and all eight of his home runs have come against righties.
The D-backs and Padres are battling at Petco Park, as Arizona looks for its fourth win in five games. Zach Davies is on the hill for the D-backs.
