Coyotes awarded 2024 3rd-round pick from Darcy Kuemper trade

Jun 27, 2022, 11:15 AM

The Colorado Avalanche took home the 2022 Stanley Cup on Sunday night in Tampa Bay, and the result had draft implications for the Arizona Coyotes.

Former Coyote goaltender Darcy Kuemper was traded to Colorado back in late July 2021 for defenseman Conor Timmins, a 2022 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2024 third-round draft pick.

Since Kuemper played in more than 50% of Colorado’s playoff games and the Avs won the Stanley Cup, the Coyotes have been awarded Colorado’s 2024 third-round draft pick.

The 32-year-old goaltender finished the playoffs with a 10-4 record while accumulating a 90% save percentage as well as allowing just 2.5 goals per game.

In Kuemper’s time with Arizona, he managed to reach the playoffs just once, back in 2020, losing in the first round to the Avalanche in five games. With the Avalanche this season, he posted a 2.54 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

The Coyotes finished with an abysmal 25-50 record last season as they will have a plethora of draft picks set for 2022.

As it currently stands, the Coyotes will have the third, 27th and 32nd picks in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Arizona will also have four selections in the second round with picks 34, 36, 43 and 45 at their disposal.

The Coyotes will also have three picks in the third through sixth rounds.
