Report: Former Suns G Aaron Holiday agrees to 1-year deal with Hawks

Jul 1, 2022, 8:29 AM | Updated: 8:31 am

Former Phoenix Suns backup guard Aaron Holiday agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The agreement comes after the Suns opted against extending a $5.8 million qualifying offer for the guard on Wednesday, making him unrestricted free agent.

Holiday joined the Suns at the trade deadline last season after playing 41 games for the Washington Wizards.

Over 22 regular-season games played last season (one start) with Phoenix, the guard averaged 6.8 points on 41.1% shooting (44.4% from long range) to go along with 3.4 assists.

He also made six playoff appearances, averaging 3.5 points and 1.5 assists over 3.3 minutes per game. He also shot 71.4% from three-point land, averaging 1.2 attempts per outing.

The brother of fellow NBA players Jrue and Justin Holiday, Aaron was taken No. 23 overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2018 draft.

Holiday spent three seasons with the Pacers before splitting time with the Wizards and Suns last season.

The news of Holiday’s one-year deal comes after former Suns backup JaVale McGee agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth $20.1 million that includes a player option for the third year.

The 34-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Suns last offseason worth $5 million.

Other Suns unrestricted free agents that have yet to agree to terms with new teams include center Bismack Biyombo and guard Elfrid Payton.
