After two straight NCAA Tournament appearances, the Grand Canyon baseball team will be looking for a new skipper.

Andy Stankiewicz, GCU’s manager the past 11 seasons, is taking the head coaching job at USC, the team announced Sunday.

Taking over the program in 2012, Stankiewicz has led the Antelopes to a 341-239-2 record in his tenure.

2022 was GCU’s best with him at the helm, leading them to a 41-21 record and an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.

Stankiewicz helped guide GCU to five WAC regular-season titles, including the last two in 2021 and 2022.

In his first two seasons on the job, the Antelopes were still in Division-II. The program would continue to rise under Stankiewicz at the D-I level, finishing with a winning record in every season but one (2016).

Stankiewicz was named WAC Coach of the Year four times and is the two-time reigning winner of the honor.

He heads to Southern California just days after the athletic program made big noise, joining the Big Ten conference in 2024 in a shocking move with fellow in-state rival UCLA.

USC has a storied past in baseball, winning the National Championship 12 times in program history, the most of any school.

The program has also made 21 trips to the College World Series in Omaha, but haven’t made it that far since 2001.

The Trojans and former coach Jason Gill mutually parted ways on June 6 after a 25-28 record in the 2022 season.

USC hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament’s field of 64 teams since 2015.

Stankiewicz has spent a lot of his career in the state of Arizona, playing with the Diamondbacks in the inaugural 1998 season and then spending three season on Arizona State’s coaching staff from 2007-09.
