D-backs recall LHP Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Reno, DFA J.B. Wendelken

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled LHP Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday after manager Torey Lovullo announced postgame on Monday that the lefty would start vs. the San Francisco Giants.
In a corresponding move the D-backs claimed INF Sergio Alcántara from the San Diego Padres and designated RHP J.B. Wendelken for assignment, the team announced Tuesday.
With Humberto Castellanos and Zach Davies on the injured list, Gilbert got the nod for Tuesday’s contest.
Gilbert last started on June 7 and has posted a 7.88 ERA in 16 innings over four games. He has given up 12 earned runs in 7.1 frames over his last two starts.
Alcantara has appeared in 45 games in the majors in 2022 with the Padres and D-backs, batting .159 with one home run and 10 RBIs.
He saw his best season in 2021 with the Chicago Cubs where he batted .205 with five home runs and 17 RBIs.
Wendelken posted a 5.28 ERA in 2022 in his second season with Arizona over 29 innings. He walked 14 and struck out 21 over that time, posting a 1.345 WHIP.
Alex Wood will start for the Giants against Gilbert.
