Report: Former Suns C Frank Kaminsky signs 1-year deal with Hawks

Jul 8, 2022, 11:54 AM | Updated: 11:56 am

The Atlanta Hawks signed former Phoenix Suns center Frank Kaminsky to a one-year deal on Friday, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Kaminsky was waived ahead of the playoffs this past season, his third with the team. He was on a one-year deal with the Suns.

With Phoenix already rostering three centers in Deandre Ayton, JaVale McGee and Bismack Biyombo and looking to add a more switchable wing player, Kaminsky was the odd man out.

The center appeared in nine games for Phoenix last season before suffering a stress reaction in his right knee in mid-November. He ended up getting surgery and did not see another game played in a Suns uniform.

Over that nine-game span, Kaminsky averaged 10.6 points and 4.6 rebounds. The small stint also included a 31-point outing on Nov. 10 against the Portland Trail Blazers.

In his three seasons with Phoenix, Kaminsky averaged 8.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists over 17.6 minutes per game. He shot 46.8% from the field and 34.4% from three-point land.

The Hawks have remained busy this offseason, highlighted by the team’s acquisition of guard Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for forward Danilo Gallinari and a handful of first-round picks.

The Hawks also shipped off center Jock Landale, who was sent to the Suns in exchange for cash.

Landale joins a center room that currently features Biyombo and Dario Saric.
