The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled reliever Edwin Uceta from Triple-A Reno and optioned right-handed pitcher Sean Poppen after Saturday’s win against the Colorado Rockies, the team announced.
Uceta rejoins the D-backs after he’s made four appearances for the big league club in 2022.
His last appearance with Arizona happened to be his best of the season, giving up no runs on 4.1 innings pitched on June 10 against the Philadelphia Philles.
Uceta has thrown nine innings for the D-backs this season, sporting a 5.00 ERA.
The righty has pitched in 17 games for Reno this season, racking up 40 strikeout in 30.1 innings pitched.
As for Poppen, the veteran reliever heads down to Reno after another short stint with the D-backs.
Poppen had a good month in June, giving up just four earned runs in nine appearances.
He couldn’t keep that success moving into July, as he’s already given up four runs in just four appearances.
Poppen has pitched in 26 games for the D-backs this season.
The D-backs look to split a four-game series against the Rockies on Sunday.
First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. with coverage on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
