Diamondbacks recall OF Jake McCarthy, option OF Cooper Hummel

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled outfielder Jake McCarthy from Triple-A Reno, the team announced on Monday.
Additionally, the team optioned outfielder Cooper Hummel to the Aces following Sunday’s game.
Across 31 games (86 plate appearances) this season, McCarthy is hitting .228 and slugging .405 to go along with a .687 OPS. He’s recorded 18 hits, nine RBIs, 16 runs scored and five walks while striking out 30 times.
He last played for the D-backs on June 14, registering a run scored and a strikeout.
Originally joining the big-league squad in 2021, McCarthy hit .220 and slugged .373 to go along with a .706 OPS. He registered 13 hits, four RBIs, three stolen bases and eight walks over 24 games played (70 plate appearances).
In his first season as a D-back, Hummel is hitting .171 with a .576 OPS. He’s recorded 22 hits, 11 RBIs, four stolen bases and 20 walks over 50 games played (149 plate appearances).
Hummel last appeared in Sunday’s loss to the Colorado Rockies. He registered a strikeout in his lone at-bat.
The outfielder was originally drafted in the 18th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He joined the D-backs organization through a trade last season that sent infielder Eduardo Escobar to the Brewers.
The D-backs are back in action Monday night against the San Francisco Giants. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m. and can be heard on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
