The Houston Texans will have another helmet option this season.
The team revealed an alternate helmet on Tuesday, adding its Battle Red option to the locker room. The helmet has a glossy finish and will also feature a blue facemask.
It marks the first helmet variation in franchise history, having stuck with the Deep Steel Blues since the Texans’ inception in 2002.

The Texans plan is to rock the new look when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3 (Week 9). Houston fans can also get a sneak peek at the new helmet during Back Together Saturday on July 30.
“We’re thrilled to debut our new Battle Red helmet as we continue to evolve as an organization,” Texans president Greg Grissom said in a press release on Tuesday. “We’ve consistently shown we’re not afraid to try new things, so we jumped at the chance to design an alternate helmet that will complement our uniforms, especially the Battle Red jersey.
“The start of training camp is on the horizon and we’re excited that our fans will have the opportunity to get of the new helmet in person soon.”
The addition of Houston’s new look comes after the NFL updated its policy to allow teams to wear a second helmet with throwback, color rush or alternate uniforms.
Other teams to dive into the alternate-helmet pool include the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons.
