Arizona Sports’ Ron Wolfley meets SBS survivor Isaiah Cosme

Sports fans in the Valley, especially Arizona Cardinals fans, are well familiar with the boisterous personality of former Cardinals fullback Ron Wolfley.

Working in the broadcast booth for the Cardinals, as well as co-host of 98.7 FM Arizona Sports Wolf & Luke, Wolfley eats, sleeps and breathes Valley sports.

On Friday, Wolfley got to meet someone just as passionate about the Cardinals as him – Isaiah Cosme.

Cosme, a survivor of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS), is a lifelong fan of the Cardinals.

SBS is a severe form of physical child abuse resulting from violently shaking an infant.

Upon meeting Wolfley, Cosme referred to him as a ‘wedge buster,’ one of the radio host’s many sayings.

Cosme even impressed the former NFL’er with his knowledge of the game, asking Wolfley why his position of fullback has declined since 1991.

“This kid knows what he’s talking about right here,” Wolfley said.

The two then discussed how the fullback is making a comeback in today’s NFL, with Wolfley telling Cosme that 22 teams currently use one.

Wolfley then gifted Cosme some fresh Cardinals swag, highlighted by a new camo hat that just hit the stores.

“Incredible human being, an incredible kid,” Wolfley said following his time with Cosme. “The miracle that he is, the story that he has, although sad is also very triumphant.”

Wolfley added that he was honored to be in Cosme’s presence, and says the way he’s handled adversity is inspiring.

“Watching him do that is just amazing to me, I just respect that so much from this young guy,” Wolfley said. “(We) Wanna do whatever we can of course to just love on him.”

The former fullback and radio host made a point to tell Cosme that this was very much the start to their friendship.

Cosme ended things by saying he wishes to be able to watch a Cardinals broadcast with Wolfley and play-by-play announcer Dave Pasch.

“You know what, I will work on that,” Wolfley said.
