Arizona Cardinals receiver Marquise Brown was placed on the active non-football injury list with a hamstring issue on Tuesday, the same day players reported for camp.

It is unknown how serious his injury is or how he was hurt.

Brown was the team’s big offseason acquisition, a friend and college teammate of quarterback Kyler Murray who was expected to take on a larger role with Arizona being without lead receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the first six games of the regular season due to a PED suspension.

Brown’s status could still see him contribute in that way, as he’ll be able to return once healthy.

Last year in his third NFL season, Brown surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, adding six touchdowns for the Baltimore Ravens. He was traded to the Cardinals for a package that included Arizona’s first-round pick.

Brown and tight end Maxx Williams are the two Cardinals of note who will not be with the team as camp ramps up on Wednesday. Williams is on the physically unable to perform list as he continues recovering from a knee injury suffered last season.

Brown and Murray had been working together in portions of voluntary OTAs and around it to make the receiver’s transition to Arizona as smooth as possible.

“I’d say comparatively speaking, if you’re talking about a guy who didn’t know the quarterback or didn’t play in a similar system (in college at Oklahoma) and didn’t get to work out with him and hear the calls, see the signals, I would say he’s way ahead of the curve when it comes to that,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said of Brown in June.

“Kyler can signal things out to him, talk through the offense, how we do things, pace of play, all that and just continue to build that rapport,” the head coach added. “Getting that timing together is huge any time you can have that type of work.”
