Jaron Brown wows the crowd at Arizona Cardinals training camp

When people talk about the Arizona Cardinals’ wide receiver corps, understandably Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and John Brown garner much of the attention.

Tuesday, another member of that position group had a “hey, look at me” moment.

Third-year receiver Jaron Brown had the play of training camp so far, elevating for a beautiful one-handed catch in between defensive backs Patrick Peterson and Tony Jefferson. Fans in attendance at University of Phoenix Stadium showed Brown their appreciation after the play. It also wasn’t a bad thing that Brown’s catch was captured by cameras from NFL Network, who were broadcasting live in Glendale.

“It was a good catch,” Brown said following Tuesday’s practice. “I came down kind of hard, so it knocked the breath out of me.”

Despite making the team as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson in 2013, Brown is right in the middle of a roster spot battle with a number of receivers, including Brittan Golden, J.J. Nelson, Ryan Spadola and Jaxon Shipley.

“I’m used to that,” Brown said of the position battle. “I came in undrafted, so I’m the underdog all the time.”

Tuesday’s catch showed Brown’s ample athletic ability. His goal now is to make more plays to catch the coaching staff’s attention.

“Every day, just got to be consistent with it,” he said.

As a second-year player in 2014, Brown ranked sixth on the team with 22 receptions for 229 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also coming back from a scapula injury suffered in Arizona’s playoff loss to the Carolina Panthers in January. Brown is fully recovered and has a clear goal for the rest of training camp.

“Just improve from last year,” he said. “Be more consistent and try to eliminate the mental errors. Just little things like that I’ve got to improve on and hopefully I’ll make the 53.”
