The Arizona Diamondbacks announced the team has recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Holton from the taxi squad on Saturday.
Less than an hour before the move, the D-backs traded outfielder David Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays for a minor league catcher prospect, making an active roster spot available with Arizona.
Holton has given up zero earned runs over three innings in his first year in the major leagues. He made his major league debut in April against the St. Louis Cardinals and allowed two hits but escaped with a scoreless inning and one strikeout to his name.
The 26-year-old went 2-0 over 18 games with the Triple-A Reno Aces, posting a 3.29 ERA this season in 27.1 innings pitched, striking out 29 over that time. He last pitched on May 27 with the D-backs before getting optioned back down.
Holton was drafted in the ninth round (No. 279 overall) out of Florida State in 2018.
The D-backs take on the Atlanta Braves at 4:20 p.m. from Truist Park. Catch all the action on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
