Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Emmanuel Rivera is active for Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians after being acquired on Monday.
In a corresponding move, infielder Buddy Kennedy was sent down to Triple-A Reno but will remain with the team on the taxi squad.
Rivera was the trade return for Arizona from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver.
In 63 games this year for Kansas City, Rivera is hitting .237 with six home runs and 22 RBIs. The 26-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday and made his MLB debut in June 2021. He was originally picked by the Royals in the 19th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
Kennedy, 23, cracked the majors in mid-June and the rookie is hitting .225 this year in 80 at-bats and 29 appearances.
Arizona’s matchup in Cleveland on Tuesday has a 4:10 p.m. first pitch you can hear on ESPN 620 AM and 98.7 FM HD-2.
