The Arizona Cardinals and fourth-year safety Jalen Thompson agreed to a three-year contract extension, keeping him locked in through the 2025 season.

It is reportedly worth up to $40 million, with $24.5 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Thompson, the lone player selected from the 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft out of Washington State, is coming off a career year in 2021 where he registered 121 total tackles. He is entering the final year of his contract.

The safety has become a mainstay in the Cardinals’ secondary, patrolling the backend of the defense with fellow safety Budda Baker.

Playing in 17 games last season, Thompson was the Cardinals’ leading tackler. He did more than just help in run support, adding three interceptions and seven passes defensed, both of which ranked second on the team.

Entering his fourth year in the league, Thompson has progressed since coming onto the scene as a rookie in 2019.

Thompson saw action in 15 games as a rookie, including nine starts where he registered 57 total tackles on the season.

Heading into 2020 with increased expectations, the safety injured his ankle in just two plays into the season opener, landing him on the injured reserve.

He would return and start just four games but would put it all together with a healthy year in 2021.

Thompson was one of two active players on an NFL roster to be taken in the supplemental draft before the Kansas City Chiefs released wide receiver Josh Gordon this week. He is signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad.

Thompson entered the NFL in the supplemental draft after being ruled ineligible for his senior season at Washington State by the NCAA. By selecting Thompson in 2019, the Cardinals forfeited a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
