Arizona Cardinals running backs coach James Saxon was charged with two counts of domestic battery on May 25 in Indianapolis, Ind., as first reported by ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss.

The incident allegedly occurred May 7, and the charges involved a Level 6 felony for assaulting a woman in front of a child younger than 16 years old and domestic battery, according to Marion County court records.

Saxon’s charges stem from an alleged physical altercation with a woman in her home in front of two children.

He pushed her multiple times, including into a garage door, according to the probable cause affidavit. She also alleged he said, “You got your gun? You might as well just shoot me now,” according to ESPN.

A warrant went out for his arrest May 25 but was recalled June 8, according to ESPN. Saxon, 56, was issued a restraining order, according to court records.

The case is in a holding pattern until Aug. 25, when the attorney conference is set and a trial date could be determined.

His first court appearance was June 15.

The Cardinals told ESPN they are looking into the matter, while Saxon has remained on the field for training camp.

Saxon joined Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s staff in 2019, and he is in his 23rd season as a running backs coach. He also played in the NFL for eight seasons from 1988-95.

The report of Saxon’s charges comes one day after Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown was arrested for speeding Wednesday morning.
