Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon McCarthy threw to live batters Monday for the first time since he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Angels shortstop Erick Aybar back on September 5.
McCarthy, then with the Oakland Athletics, suffered an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture on the play and missed the remainder of the regular season and postseason.
The 29-year-old right-hander signed a two-year deal with the D-backs back in December.
