Cardinals’ Kyler Murray back from COVID-19 stint for Red & White practice

GLENDALE — He’s back.

After missing the past five days after testing positive for COVID-19, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was back on the practice field ahead of Saturday’s Red & White practice.

The signal caller was seen stretching before the open practice.

“We’re going to get him loosened up,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Saturday. “Obviously he’s been out of commission for five days, kind of just sitting around and trying to feel better. We’ll see how he feels. If he does anything, it’ll be minimal football-wise. I know he’s going to run and lift and just try to get rolling again.

“He may do some (individual work) or part of the warmup but we’ll see,” the head coach added.

Murray’s return comes after Kingsbury said the QB was feeling better and was going “stir crazy” in isolation. The head coach added he was hopeful Murray would be back on the field Saturday.

Murray originally tested positive for the virus on Monday, ruling him out for at least five days.

Despite being forced away from the team, Murray had still Zoomed into quarterback meetings and stayed in communication with Kingsbury and the team throughout.

With Murray sidelined, Colt McCoy garnered starter reps in camp, with Trace McSorley and Jarrett Guarantano picking up backup snaps.

Now, the real question is: How is Murray’s wrist and how much will he participate?

It’s a positive sight for the Cardinals, who have had to deal with multiple off-the-field distractions this week.

Arizona has also been hit with a handful of injuries to key members of the team, including tight end Zach Ertz, wide receiver Antoine Wesley and cornerback Marco Wilson.

The “sold out” Red & White practice kicks off at 1:30 p.m.
