Chuck Powell’s All Star Ballot vs. a 9-year-old’s

Every year Major League Baseball contends with heavy criticism over how the rosters are selected for the All-Star Game. Personally, I take issue with how the reserves are selected, but I’ve always defended the league over the main two points of contention. I do believe every Major League team should be represented at the Fall Classic, and I believe the fan vote should determine the game’s starters. After all, above all other games, the All-Star Game is the fan’s game. Don’t blame the fans because the village idiot Bud Selig decided an exhibition game should play a role in the postseason schedule.

Of course, it doesn’t matter what Bud decides. People love to criticize the MLB All-Star Game as a flawed event. The controversy is as much a part of the game as the pageantry. And believe me when I tell you, the controversy begins long before the first pitch. Filling out one’s MLB All-Star ballot provides a true expression of what the individual fan personally loves about the game of Major League Baseball. I’ll prove it to you.
