Top-heavy Pac-12 places 3 in 2022 preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll
Alabama was voted No. 1 in the preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll released Monday, with Ohio State second and defending national champion Georgia third.
Clemson was No. 4 and Notre Dame was No. 5. Michigan, coming off its first College Football Playoff appearance, was sixth, followed by Texas A&M, Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor.
The Pac-12 placed three teams in the top-15: Utah (8), Oregon (12) and USC (15).
But the conference did not have any more teams representing it in the top-25 and only saw two other teams earn points, with UCLA (10 points) and Oregon State (2 points) receiving some votes.
Five Pac-12 coaches were among the 66 head coaches who voted in the poll: Herm Edwards (Arizona State), Jedd Fisch (Arizona Wildcats), Kalen DeBoer (Washington Huskies), Jake Dickert (Washington State Cougars) and Kyle Whittingham (Utah Utes).
The Associated Press preseason Top 25 will be released Aug. 15.
The Crimson Tide received 54 first-place votes from a panel of 66 major college football coaches. Alabama is coming off a loss in the College Football Playoff title game to Georgia.
The Buckeyes received five first-place votes and the Bulldogs got six. No. 18 Texas also received a first-place vote.
