The Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday signed rookie cornerback Cortez Davis and released fellow CB Nate Brooks.
The signing comes after the team worked out cornerbacks Davis, John Brannon, Maurice Canady, Rodney Clemons, Sean Davis and Jameson Houston, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.
Davis was an undrafted free agent out of Hawaii and spent rookie camp with the Denver Broncos earlier this year before being waived in May.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound cornerback was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team for the second year in a row in his last collegiate season.
In 13 games (all starts) for Hawaii, Davis led the country last season with 18 pass breakups (touched the ball) and came in second with 19 passes defended.
He also registered 48 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception and one forced fumble.
The addition of Davis gives the Cardinals more depth at cornerback in training camp as the competition heats up behind fourth-year pro Byron Murphy Jr., who remains the Cardinals’ No. 1 corner.
The likes of Marco Wilson, Josh Jackson, Breon Borders, Antonio Hamilton and Jace Whittaker are in the position battle behind Murphy.
Brooks has four NFL games under his belt with the Miami Dolphins (2019) and Baltimore Ravens (2020). He signed with Arizona in December 2021 but previously joined the Cardinals for camp as an undrafted rookie in 2019.
He has also spent time on the rosters of the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans.
