Little leaguer comforts pitcher after getting hit in the head

Aug 9, 2022, 2:45 PM

Sometimes the innocence of a child can be an example of how adults should act when a mistake is made, especially on the diamond.

In Tuesday’s Little League World Series Southwest Regional Championship between Texas East (Pearland) and Oklahoma (Tulsa), an incredible act of compassion and sportsmanship was displayed.

After Oklahoma batter Isaiah Jarvis was struck in the helmet by a errant pitch from Texas East’s Kaiden Shelton, the pitcher was clearly distressed as he was crying on the mound.

Jarvis wasn’t hurt badly and eventually took first base after taking the hit. But Shelton was shaken up by letting his pitch get away, and as the Texas East head coach came out for a mound visit to console his young right-hander, so did the hit batter.

Jarvis consoled Shelton with a big hug.

“Hey, you’re doing just great,” Jarvis said after tossing his helmet at first base.

Pearland Texas went on to win the game, 9-4.
