Diamondbacks recall OF Cooper Hummel, option C Jose Herrera

The Arizona Diamondbacks called up outfielder Cooper Hummel from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and said they optioned backup catcher Jose Herrera to the minor league squad the night prior.
Hummel has 50 games on the MLB club this season and last appeared for Arizona on July 10.
He is batting .171 with the D-backs and has four doubles, three triples and two homers with 11 RBIs in 129 at-bats. The 27-year-old has 47 strikeouts to 20 walks.
Hummel is slashing .310/.423/.527 in Reno this season in the same number of at-bats. He has 40 hits with 40 strikeouts and 24 walks in the minors.
Herrera has backed up Carson Kelly at catcher and appeared in 47 games for the D-backs this year. The 25-year-old is hitting .189 with 21 hits and five RBIs in 111 at-bats.
The Diamondbacks’ move of Herrera to the minors pushes outfielder and catcher Daulton Varsho into the backup role behind Kelly.
