The news was first reported Wednesday by FanSided’s Robert Murray.
Garrett had a slash line of .275/.332/.900 with 28 homers and 95 RBIs in Triple-A with the Reno Aces this season. He will bat fifth on Wednesday against the Giants in his MLB debut and play left field.
The 28 homers ranked tied for first in Triple-A while the 95 RBIs gave him 10 more than the next highest player in the league.
The 26-year-old was selected in the eighth round by the Miami Marlins in the 2014 MLB Draft.
He has played pro baseball for the last eight seasons, seven in the minor leagues and one overseas.
Garrett joins a well-regarded group that includes young outfielders of Alek Thomas, Daulton Varsho and potentially soon-to-be call-up Corbin Carroll, the No. 3 prospect in all of minor league baseball, per MLB.com.
More room in the outfield opened up after Arizona traded long-time D-back David Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline.
After hitting .375 with a .993 OPS through the first 15 games of the year, Beer has struggled in his first full year in the majors, batting .189 with one home run and nine RBIs over 38 games total.
Fry was a relief pitcher acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in May but never appeared in a game for Arizona.
The D-backs take on the Giants on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
