It’s every NFL team’s and head coach’s nightmare: injuries suffered in meaningless preseason games.
Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Ward exited Sunday night’s 24-17 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens at State Farm Stadium.
He will not return due to a shoulder injury, the team announced.
“It’s a shoulder, shouldn’t be too bad,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters after the game. “It’s more of an (AC joint).”
Cardinals safety Charles Washington also went to the locker room after being evaluated by the training staff on the sideline.
He has been ruled out for the remainder of the preseason contest due to a chest injury.
Ward provided a spark for the Cardinals offense that was struggling for most of the first half against the Ravens defense.
The running back finished the night with 90 return yards on three kickoffs, 11 rushing yards on three carries and 27 receiving yards on one reception — Arizona’s second-longest offensive play of the half.
Washington had two solo tackles before he headed to the locker room.
With a 24-17 win over the Cardinals, the Ravens extended their record preseason winning streak that dates back to 2016 to 22 consecutive wins.
