The Sooner connections on the Arizona Cardinals have grown again this offseason, with Arizona on Monday agreeing to trade a 2023 fifth-round draft pick to the Buffalo Bills for offensive guard Cody Ford.

The Cardinals additionally released receiver Marcell Ateman on Monday.

Ford has 38 games with 29 starts in the NFL over the past three seasons. He started seven of 15 games he played last year.

The 25-year-old was a second-round pick (38th overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft and played in college with quarterback Kyler Murray and receiver Marquise Brown at Oklahoma.

Arizona’s guard depth has been in question behind projected starters Justin Pugh and Will Hernandez. Hernandez, fellow veteran Justin Murray, Danny Isidora and rookie Marquis Hayes have dealt with injuries of late.

Recent additions Rashaad Coward and Koda Martin started at the guard spot in the Week 2 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

The addition does not lend any more long-term stability to the offensive line, where the Cardinals have a number of questions beyond this coming season.

While left tackle D.J. Humphries signed an extension this offseason, starting center Rodney Hudson and left guard Justin Pugh each strongly considered retiring this offseason. Hernandez is a free agent at right guard, as is right tackle Kelvin Beachum.
