Phoenix Coyotes Associate Coach Ulf Samuelsson has accepted the head coaching job with MODO in the Swedish Elite League, according to GM Don Maloney.

A native of Fagersta, Sweden, Samuelsson will head back to his home country after being a part of the Coyotes’ coaching staff since 2006.

“On behalf of the entire Phoenix Coyotes organization, we congratulate Ulf on becoming the head coach of MODO,” Maloney said. “We thank Ulf for all his hard work and dedication to the Coyotes over the past five seasons and we wish him the best of luck with MODO.”

After playing 17 seasons in the NHL with Hartford, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Philadelphia and New York, Samuelsson spent one season as an assistant coach with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the New York Rangers’ top minor league affiliate. The experience helped get him the assistant coaching job with the Coyotes and now the head coaching job with MODO.
