The Seattle Coyotes? Let’s hope not

The Phoenix Coyotes may not be moving to Winnipeg, but that doesn’t mean that our neighbors to the north — just slightly less north — aren’t still interested in relocating the franchise.

In a report posted on MyNorthwest.com, a Seattle group is interested in bringing an NHL franchise to the Emerald City.

The National Hockey League is looking at the possibility of putting a team in Seattle.

“Certainly, we’ve talked to people that are interested in having NHL hockey in Seattle,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly tells KING 5.

While there may be interest, there is one slight problem. Daly says the city would have to get a new arena because their current building, the Key Arena, has too many obstructed view seats (which, ironically, didn’t stop the league from relocating the Coyotes to the then America West Arena).

While there wasn’t any specific talk by Daly about the Coyotes, it has become abundantly clear that any time a city even thinks about getting an NHL franchise Phoenix is the first team that comes to mind.

It’s ironic that Seattle is looking to get into professional hockey seeing as the likelihood of expansion is slim to none, meaning they’ll have to take another city’s franchise. That, of course, is something ripped Oklahoma City for doing with their beloved Sonics.
