The Houston Texans traveled to Uvalde High School on Thursday to honor and talk to the football team of the community that continues healing from the elementary school shooting that took 19 lives in May.
Texans head coach Lovie Smith and linebackers Kamu Grugier-Hill and Christian Kirksey went to show love to the school as the Coyotes have their first home game of the year on Friday.
“It was special to see the smiles on their faces,” Kirksey told Good Morning Football.
“We know this city was impacted drastically, and being a leader, not just a football player, but being an extra shoulder to lean on, it definitely warms something in my heart.”

The Texans announced on Good Morning America that in partnership with Nike, the team will be providing new uniforms to the Uvalde team.
The team also unveiled a “Uvalde Strong” decal on their helmets for the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
On Friday, Texans legends Travis Johnson, Kevin Walter and Jonathan Wells, as well as cheerleaders, will participate in the FLAG-in-Schools clinics in Uvalde where 300 students will work on the fundamentals of the game of football. They will be aided by coaches from the Uvalde community.
The legends will then talk to the varsity football team before Friday’s game and be in the stands cheering on the team.
After the tragedy in May, Texans players led the donation effort in raising $200,000 for the Robb School Memorial Fund. The organization matched their gift, totaling $400,000 in donations.
The fund helps the families of the students and teachers that lost their lives in the shooting.
