Arizona football’s new offensive duo of transfers in quarterback Jayden de Laura and wide receiver Jacob Cowing were on fire Saturday, hooking up for three passing scores in the Wildcats’ 38-20 win over San Diego State.
Their first touchdown of the day put Arizona up 10-0 in the first quarter, an optimistic start for a program that brought in a lot of talent after going 1-11 last year.
Cowing went in motion to the right side of the line, and de Laura hit him on an out route. The former UTEP receiver beat a defender to the sideline and turned the corner.
He walked into the end zone for the first touchdown scored at SDSU’s new Snapdragon Stadium.

De Laura, who transferred from Washington State, would find Cowing again in the end zone with 28 seconds remaining in the first half, to give the Wildcats a 24-10 lead at the break
The duo would waste no time in linking up again after half, with de Laura hitting Cowing for a 25-yard touchdown over the middle.

Both of the newcomers packed the stat sheet in their Arizona debut’s.
De Laura, the 2021 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year, finished the day completing 22 of his 35 passes for 299 yards, with four touchdowns and an interception.
The quarterback’s other touchdown of the day that wasn’t thrown to Cowing was hauled in by highly-touted true freshman, Tetairoa McMillan.
As for Cowing, the receiver hauled in eight catches for 152 yards to go with his three scores.
Arizona will have its home opener next Saturday, hosting Mississippi State at 8 p.m.
