Arizona State sophomore golfer Preston Summerhays was named to the Fred Haskins Award preseason watch list last week.
The award has honored the best collegiate golfer in the NCAA each year since 1970.
The last Sun Devil to win it was Phil Mickelson back in 1992. Mickelson won it three times, while Billy Mayfair was the first ASU golfer to earn the honor in 1987.
Summerhays has already built up quite the resume in his young career.

He took home the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2021-22.
Before college, he performed in the 2020 and 2021 U.S. Open, the latter of which was won by former Sun Devil Jon Rahm.
Summerhays, a Scottsdale native, also became the youngest winner of the Sunnehanna Amateur in 2020.
He is one of 25 golfers on the preseason watch list.
ASU’s season begins Friday at the Maui Jim Invitational at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale.
