Arizona QB Jayden de Laura does Pac-12 after dark in a single play

On a chaotic college football Saturday, a 25-second play ending with Arizona Wildcats quarterback Jayden de Laura getting intercepted was truly a whirlwind.

In the first quarter, de Laura took a snap in the shotgun and was quickly in trouble against the oncoming Mississippi State pass rush.

The outside rush to his blind side collapsed the pocket. De Laura stepped up and exited the pocket to his left. Multiple defenders were ahead of him, so his only escape route was backward.

The former Washington State Cougar ran 22 yards behind the line of scrimmage — the Arizona 40-yard line — before getting hit by two defenders in pursuit.

De Laura, though, ducked and bounced away from the rush. He just wouldn’t go down.

He ran back up 10 yards, directed traffic and unloaded the ball downfield toward receiver Jacob Cowing.

Defensive back Jalen Green came up with it after a deflection and returned it back to the Arizona 37-yard line.

De Laura was then called for a personal foul after the change of possession, which gifted MSU possession at the Wildcats 22-yard line.

The reactions came quickly.

De Laura was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a season-opening victory last Saturday against San Diego State. The offseason transfer is in his second game with Arizona.
