Spotted, heard and observed: Coyotes vs. Jets

Dec 2, 2011, 5:39 AM | Updated: 5:39 am

The Phoenix Coyotes lost a tough game to the Winnipeg Jets in a game that was chock-full of story lines and drama. The Coyotes looked lackluster and the wear-and-tear of a tough game Tuesday was very apparent. Final Score: Jets 1, Coyotes 0

Spotted: Kyle Turris back on the ice

Former contract holdout Kyle Turris was a sore spot for the Coyotes this season and rumors were flying around that he was refusing to play for the teamm but he re-signed late last month and made his season debut Thursday. Turris led the team with four shots and won all six of his face-offs. His future with the Coyotes will undoubtedly be the subject of rumor for months, but for now, he’s a Coyote.

Heard: Shane Doan being booed.

At the end of last season, it was heavily rumored that the Coyotes were on their way “home” to Winnipeg, after an organization of investors sought to bring the Coyotes back to Canada and restore the Jets franchise. When that didn’t happen, the group purchased the Atlanta Thrashers and reinvented the Jets. As the only player remaining from the original Jets, Doan was not welcomed by the fans very well. Yet oddly enough, when they showed him on the big screen, he received a standing ovation. Winnipeg is a fickle town, it seems.

Observed: No favorable bounces.

No matter what the Coyotes did Wednesday, that puck would not go in. Setting aside a brilliant display of goaltending by Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec, luck seemed to have left the Coyotes for the night. Throughout the game, the puck seemed to bounce over their sticks or take an odd ricochet that would change the play. The icing on the cake was, towards the end of the game, the Coyotes beat Pavelec and the puck would have likely rolled in, had it not bounced 90 degrees to the left.
