Arizona Diamondbacks fans know how good Paul Goldschmidt is. National League West pitchers, especially Tim Lincecum, know how good the D-backs first basemen is.

But is Goldschmidt really getting the national credit he deserves for being one of the most feared hitters in baseball?

That answer is up for debate due to the lack of media attention surrounding the D-backs over the past few years. The D-backs often get overlooked by the national media when they have good teams, which has not been the case since Justin Upton and Co. led the team to the 2011 National League division title. So obviously the team is not going to garner much attention during a mediocre or losing season.

On Monday, Goldschmidt received a national nod when he was named the best hitter in the National League in a vote that involved all 30 MLB managers.

Baseball America had all 30 MLB managers rank the top players of each league in 25 different categories. Naturally, Goldschmidt attracted attention in a few categories.

Aside from being named best hitter, Goldy was named the best first baseman defensively, was second behind Cincinnati’s Joey Votto in strike-zone judgement and third for National League baserunners.

Goldschmidt finished above Bryce Harper and Buster Posey for National League best hitter.

The D-backs MVP candidate leads the National League with a .337 batting average and ranks second with 79 RBI. He has also smacked 22 home runs to go along with his career-high 19 stolen bases.

No other D-backs player ranked in one of the 25 categories.
