MESA — Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Antoine Wesley was an early standout in training camp this offseason.

But after a rough day on the football field in early August that ended with the wideout suffering an injury to his groin/hip area, Wesley was forced to watch from the sideline.

He was eventually placed on the short-term injured reserve following the final 53-man roster cuts.

The earliest Wesley can return to action is Week 5, a date he’s certainly got circled on the calendar.

“Oh, yeah,” Wesley said Monday when asked if he feels like he’ll be good to go after his IR stint is up. “I have no choice but to. I can’t be out a whole other year and not playing ball again. I’m not going to miss this year.”

With DeAndre Hopkins serving a six-game suspension to start the season, Wesley was a receiver the offense was counting on to help fill the void in Hopkins’ absence — much like last season.

In the seven games Hopkins missed in 2021, Wesley recorded 18 catches (29 targets) for 201 yards and three touchdowns, two coming in a Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys.

EXTRA POINT

Wesley on what he saw in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs: “Just a little miscommunication. We got to get back in film and correct them and play as one, offense and defense.”
