The Arizona State Sun Devils have named running backs coach Shaun Aguano as the interim head coach, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported.
ASU and Vice President of University Athletics Ray Anderson parted ways with head coach Herm Edwards after the team finished 1-2 before Pac-12 play with losses to Oklahoma State and Eastern Michigan.
Aguano was the head coach of Chandler High School where he posted an 88-19 record with four state championships in eight seasons.
He was also the coach of popular Sun Devil standouts N’Keal Harry and Chase Lucas.
In his head coaching career, Aguano led Chandler to national recognition by going 63-8 over his last five seasons and being ranked in the MaxPreps National Top-25 three separate times.
He joined the Sun Devils coaching staff as a running backs coach in 2019 when Eno Benjamin posted 1,083 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The running back room has been a strength for the Arizona State team since Aguano took over with Rachaad White and Benjamin now in the NFL and X Valladay coming in from Wyoming as an accomplished college runner who wanted to play for the coach.
