Report: Cardinals RB James Conner’s ankle injury not long-term

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner is not expected to be out for the long-term after injuring his ankle in a win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Conner spent the end of the second half on the sidelines after getting hurt in the 29-23 overtime win. He remained in uniform and was seen testing out his ankle on the sidelines but did not return.

Conner finished with seven carries for 25 yards and two catches for 26 more.

With the veteran starter injured, Arizona gave eight carries each to backups Darrel Williams (51 yards) and Eno Benjamin (31 yards).

Benjamin added three catches for 20 yards, while Williams had two receptions for three.

From a snaps perspective, Williams had a slight edge (40) on Benjamin (37).

The Cardinals re-signed Conner in the offseason after he spent last year splitting snaps with Chase Edmonds, who also hit free agency but opted to just the Miami Dolphins.
