Zach Allen: Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has ‘no quit’

Nothing the Las Vegas Raiders did on Sunday took the Arizona Cardinals by surprise. There wasn’t a big halftime meeting with an abundance of shouting at one another after Arizona fell behind 20-0. They just tightened the screws, executed better and came out with a much-needed comeback win.

Cornerback Byron Murphy ultimately walked off the Raiders with a 59-yard fumble return for a touchdown in overtime, but quarterback Kyler Murray led the charge in the second-half comeback.

“There’s no quit in [Murray],” Cardinals defensive end Zach Allen told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Monday. “The whole team feeds off of [his performance]. … There’s a reason that he’s our guy.”

Murray remained poised throughout the final minutes — and seconds — of regulation. In the fourth quarter, where the Cardinals outscored the Raiders 16-0, Murray tallied 103 yards through the air and 10 more on the ground, netting one touchdown and two two-point conversions.

His passer rating in the fourth quarter was 70.1, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Murray made that comeback happen, and his efforts had a trickledown effect on the rest of the roster.

“If you ask any person in that locker room or in the building, they’ll agree … we’re really fortunate to have him as the guy that we all look up to,” Allen said.

Regardless, the Cardinals may not win that game without the defensive heroics of Murphy. According to Football Reference, the fourth-year corner wasn’t targeted once. However, he is the No. 1 cornerback in a room that held Davante Adams to just two catches for 12 yards on seven targets.

“[Murphy and I] came [into the league] together, so kind of seeing him grow has been amazing,” Allen said.

Allen had a strong performance on Sunday as well. The Boston College product only registered one tackle but had two hits on Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

“I definitely was able to cause some disruption,” Allen said. “The ball is coming out (of the quarterback’s hand) quick so sacks aren’t there, but the hits are. … We’re all just playing like really an attack-style front right now.”
