Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz and his wife, Julie, are pledging to provide half a million meals in an effort to fight hunger in the state, according to a press release.
The Ertz Family Foundation teamed up with The Athletes’ Corner for the second consecutive year as part of their Score More n’ Feed More initiative, which helps give meals for every touchdown the Cardinals score.
Last season saw the initiative provide 150,000 meals to Arizona food banks and the Ertz family wants to more than triple that this year.
“Julie and I are proud to provide 500,000 meals this season with The Athletes’ Corner!” Zach Ertz said in the release.
“We are passionate about doing all we can to support the children and families who are affected by food insecurity in our home state of Arizona and we are excited to support as many people as possible through our Score More n’ Feed More initiative.”
The 2022 NFL season will also mark the third straight year in which the Ertz Family Foundation has worked with The Athletes’ Corner to combat hunger.
After Julie Ertz’s campaign with the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Zach Ertz’s with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Cardinals, the two foundations have aided in raising a total of 1.4 million meals with Feeding America for families in need.
“We absolutely love working with Zach and Julie,” Brennen Creer, co-founder and CEO of The Athletes’ Corner, said in the release.
“They are constantly striving to serve wherever they can, and truly live out their faith. They perfectly embody the mission of The Athletes’ Corner by using their platforms to help those who need it most.”
And after welcoming their first child, Madden, into the world in August, the Ertz couple also wants to fight childhood hunger.
Of the nearly 800,000 people facing hunger in Arizona, almost 270,000 of them are children, according to Feeding America.
The Ertz Family Foundation and The Athletes’ Corner’s goal is to give over one million meals through the initiative this season.
