The Arizona Diamondbacks made a handful of roster moves on Friday.
The team announced that it recalled left-handed pitcher Tommy Henry and outfielder/first baseman Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno.
In two corresponding moves, the D-backs optioned LHP Tyler Holton to Reno and placed OF Jake McCarthy on the bereavement list due to a death in his family.
Henry’s recall should come as no surprise, as the lefty is making his eighth start of both the season and his MLB career against the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.
The 25-year-old rookie is 3-4 with a 5.50 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 25 strikeouts over 36 innings pitched in the big leagues this year.
Smith, 26, last played for the Diamondbacks on June 29. The left-handed hitter was optioned to Triple-A Reno on July 2, but unfortunately suffered a fractured right wrist in just his second start with the Aces that saw him placed on the 60-day injured list.
Holton, another 26-year-old rookie, posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with six strikeouts in 9.0 innings pitched for Arizona this season.
The D-backs host the Giants in the first of a three-game series on Friday night at Chase Field, which will the last homestand of the season for Arizona.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. and can be heard on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
