It took a while to get a ruling on, but NHL senior vice
president of player safety and hockey
operations Brendan Shanahan announced Tuesday that Chicago
Blackhawks rookie Andrew Shaw has been suspended for three
games.
The suspension comes as a result of Shaw’s shoulder-to-
head
contact with Phoenix Coyotes’ goalie Mike Smith during
Chicago’s 3-2 overtime win in Game 2 of the Western
Conference Quarterfinals last Saturday.
Smith went down and stayed down for several minutes after
the contact, while Shaw received a 5-minute major for
charging and a game misconduct.
Smith stayed in the game, but did not practice with the
team prior to their flight to Chicago for Game 3, which is
Tuesday night at the United Center.
