GLENDALE — The connection between quarterback Kyler Murray and wide receiver Hollywood Brown wouldn’t be denied Sunday afternoon in a 20-12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

After recording 10 catches combined over the past two games, Brown more than doubled his receptions on the season in the divisional matchup.

With 14 receptions (17 targets) for 140 yards, Brown set a new career mark for catches in a single game. Back in 2019 against the Green Bay Packers, Brown reeled in 10 of his 14 targets for 43 yards.

“I know what he’s capable of,” quarterback Kyler Murray said postgame. “I know what he’s going to do

“Good things happen when you throw to guys who can make plays. He made plays, too.”

Getting Brown the ball more was clearly a point of emphasis this week for the Cardinals, especially with how Week 2 shook out.

The Murray-Brown connection, along with some impressive stops by the defense, helped keep Arizona in the game after yet another rough showing right out the gate at home.

Unfortunately for Arizona, Brown’s impressive stat sheet wasn’t enough to pick up the victory.

And even though his production was among the lone bright spots in the matchup, the wide receiver is more concerned with the team’s record than what shows up on the stat sheet.

“I feel terrible,” Brown said when asked about his afternoon. “I didn’t know I had a big game until I came in here and heard the stats. I was out there just trying to make plays and to lose? There’s no good feeling in that.

“It’s very frustrating,” Brown added. “We can put it together and look like an offense that can be stopped and then we stall out. That’s not who we want to be, that’s not who we’re going to be, so we’re going to go work on it.”
