The Arizona State Sun Devils did something on Saturday night against the No. 6 USC Trojans that they hadn’t all season.
Not only did ASU score a touchdown in the first quarter for the first time this year, but it also came on the offense’s opening drive of the game.
After Caleb Williams led USC down the field on their opening possession for the game’s opening TD, Emory Jones and Co. wasted no time responding.
On the ensuing possession, Jones led the Sun Devils offense on an eight-play, 74-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a 29-yard strike to running back Xazavian Valladay.
Jones finished the first half 9-for-11 (82%) for 17 yards and a score. He also added 15 rushing yards and a TD on three carries.
Valladay ended the opening two quarters with only the 29-yard reception, but tallied a game-high 57 yards on the ground on seven rushes (8.1 yards per attempt).
Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the defense has yet to stop the Trojans, who scored three touchdowns on their first four possessions.
ASU (1-4, 0-2 Pac-12) would end up losing to No. 6 USC (5-0, 3-0) at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, 42-25.
