The Arizona Diamondbacks officially ended infielder Emmanuel Rivera’s season Sunday by placing him on the 16-day injured list with a fractured left wrist.
Rivera was a late scratch from Saturday’s lineup, and manager Torey Lovullo told Bally Sports Arizona’s Jody Jackson that Rivera’s 2022 was over.
The D-backs selected infielder Jake Hager Sunday from Triple-A Reno to replace Rivera on the roster and transferred Ketel Marte to the 10-day IL.
Arizona picked up Rivera at the trade deadline in a deal with the Kansas City Royals for reliever Luke Weaver.
Rivera produced right away with a .932 OPS in his first 20 games with the D-backs.
Hager returns after he was optioned to the Reno Aces on July 7.
He has since been designated for assignment, sent outright to Triple-A and hit a three-run home run in the Pacific Coast League championship to help the Aces win the title.
What a homecoming!
