The Cardinals took the ball away from the Carolina Panthers three times on Sunday, but a fourth quarter interception was the punctuation mark on a 26-16 Arizona road win.

The Cardinals took the lead on a Matt Prater field goal with 11:22 remaining in the game, 13-10.

Carolina needed a response, but quarterback Baker Mayfield’s pass was tipped up in the air by defensive end J.J. Watt. Edge rusher Dennis Gardeck came down with it and nearly scored on a 24-yard return.

It was Gardeck’s first career interception.

Arizona’s offense took over at the Carolina 5-yard line, and quarterback Kyler Murray waltzed into the end zone two plays later on a designed run. The extra point gave Arizona a commanding 20-10 lead.

The turnover was Mayfield’s second interception of the game after safety Jalen Thompson came away with one in the first half.

The Cardinals’ defensive line made a major impact tipping passes at the line on Sunday, as defensive end Zach Allen had three on the day and Watt had two.

The Cardinals moved to 2-2 with the victory.
