Arizona Cardinals receiver Antoine Wesley was designated to return after a four-week stint on the injured reserve due to a hip/groin issue, but the jump-ball threat will now miss the rest of the regular season and head to the injured reserve, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday.
Kingsbury only called the injury a “setback.”
Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson reported Friday that Wesley was undergoing an MRI for what the team feared is a torn quadriceps.
Wesley, 24, recorded 19 catches for 208 yards and three touchdowns a year ago — most of that production came after he stepped in following an injury to No. 1 outside man DeAndre Hopkins.
Wesley was set to get significant playing time with Hopkins out for the first six games of the season due to a PED suspension.
The Cardinals’ wide receiver room for a Week 6 road game against the Seattle Seahawks looks to include Hollywood Brown, A.J. Green, Rondale Moore, Greg Dortch and Andre Baccellia.
