The Diamondbacks are not in the 2022 postseason, but that hasn’t kept them out of the headlines.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale suggests that the team is losing patience with left-handed starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner.

The Diamondbacks, will bring struggling veteran Madison Bumgarner to spring training, hoping he can pitch well enough to trade him.

It’s not a new idea. Guys with big contracts usually draw the most criticism and rumors.

Bumgarner is no exception, with $37 million still owed to him over the next two seasons.

There are plenty of other factors that make a trade difficult.

Bumgarner’s play in the second half of the season won’t inspire teams.

His 9.23 ERA in August was historically bad.

And Bumgarner’s age suggests he’s not going to get dramatically better over time.

So what should the D-backs do with MadBum?

Cody Fincher and Steve Zinsmeister lay out the best and worst possible scenarios on this week’s episode of The Ain’t No Fang, an Arizona Sports podcast.
