Suns’ Cam Johnson exits with cramping in 4th quarter vs. Mavs

Phoenix Suns forward Cam Johnson exited Wednesday’s season opener against the Dallas Mavericks with a noticeable limp.

Johnson, who had helped Phoenix back to life in the third period after facing a 17-point halftime deficit, went into the locker room and did not return to action.

Johnson made a jumper but landed awkwardly, grabbing his upper right leg on the other end of the floor.

Head coach Monty Williams told reporters postgame that Johnson was struggling with cramping and should be fine going forward.

He returned to the bench to watch the end of the game.

The fourth-year wing left the game with 15 points after hitting a pair of 3s in the third quarter. He played 27:10.

Josh Okogie checked in for the injured forward.

Johnson started Wednesday’s game alongside Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton.

The 26-year-old will be counted on to start this season with Jae Crowder away from the team and looking to be traded.

The Suns beat Dallas 107-105.
